Situation Structuring
Situation Structuring is employed to combine or group the diverse elements (people, places, things) in a situation to make it easier to understand and thus more manageable.
Situation Structuring has four main stages:
|
Step 1: |
Identification of the major elements (people, physical items, emotions, etc.) in the situation. |
| Step 2: |
Identification of important dimensions (e.g., personal-impersonal, new-old, healthy-sick) inherent in the situation. |
| Step 3: |
Rating of each element on each dimension. |
| Step 4: |
Statistical grouping of the elements on the dimensions to find the optimum balance between simplicity (few groups) and similarity of elements within the groups. |
The result is a better understanding of the situation and its component parts.
